Spring Break & Blossoms.
February 21 2022, Mercedes-Benz Vancouver

The first day of spring falls on March 20, but we can feel it in the air already. Here are some of the best Vancouver-based activities to do with the kids this month—on Spring Break, or just because!
Grouse Mountain
As always, Grouse has many wintery offerings (weather permitting) for the whole family. Lace up your skates for a morning on the Skate Pond, grab your sled and head to the Sliding Zone, or snowshoe through a winter wonderland at dusk on the Light Walk. For all you skiers and riders out there, take note: Grouse’s Y2Play Passes, Vancouver’s best value snow pass, went on sale March 1.
Cherry Blossom Festival
Our city's stunning cherry trees are starting to bloom and the 16th annual Vancouver Cherry Blossom Festival is here to help you enjoy them. From haiku-writing contests to online lists of the best blossoming streets in the city, this festival has something fun for everyone. No matter where you reside, there are sure to be some sweet pink beauties popping up near you.
Science World
Give the kids a dino-education at the much anticipated new exhibit, T. rex: The Ultimate Predator, which opened February 26. The late Cretaceous Period comes to life in this interactive ode to the Tyrannosaurus rex, and includes activities like inspecting early evidence of dinosaur feathers, and a “roar mixer” station where you can create your own version of a T. rex roar by blending sounds of living animals.
FlyOver Canada’s Legendary Iceland
Until April 18, FlyOver Canada showcases Legendary Iceland, an exhilarating flying ride that lets you soar across Iceland’s fjords and glaciers. Kids will surely get a thrill out of hanging suspended in front of the show’s 20-metre screen. Scoop up the Family Experience Iceland package to visit before 2:00pm and enjoy free admission for kids, along with treats and a discount on a family photo.
Bloedel Conservatory
Queen Elizabeth Park is not only Vancouver’s highest point, it is also home to the lush domed oasis known as Bloedel Conservatory. More than 500 exotic plants and flowers and 100 birds reside within the temperature controlled paradise, which is a wonderful alternative to a warm-weather trip.
Vancouver Farmers Markets
There are two bustling weekend Farmers Markets that remain open throughout March: Saturdays at Riley Park and Sundays at Hastings Park. Pack up the family and shop for fresh baked goods, organic meats, and artisanal cheeses, then head to your favourite picnic destination (we love Spanish Banks or English Bay) to eat your locally grown bounty.
Vancouver International Women in Film Festival
After the kids go to bed, reward yourself with an internationally acclaimed film night in the comfort of your own home. The 17th annual Vancouver International Women in Film Festival (VIWFF) takes place virtually from March 8-13, 2022, and features 33 films from 12 countries. If your family includes teenagers, consider inviting them to join the screening, too!
There’s so much to see and do this month for the whole family, so get out there and enjoy the best of what Vancouver has to offer!
Whether you’re celebrating Valentine’s Day with a special someone, or craving a road trip with the family, treat yourself to a cold-weather adventure this month. And, before you leave, don’t forget your winter tires!
